I am here in Ethiopia for my 14th visit. I had no idea when I first came in 2009 that
this would be a long term activity. As
is usual for our visits here, we have a large and diverse team. Most of our team has arrived although a few
more arrive in the morning. We have 5 ENT
surgeons, 4 audiologists, 2 orthopedic surgeons, a nurse, a medical student and
two administrative people/assistants in addition to me. Our orthopedic surgeons will concentrate on
hand and reconstructive surgery, the audiology team will work on completing
some hearing evaluations along with the ENT surgeons, we will also do ENT
surgery and clinic. The rest of us will
do a little of all of these!
Dr. Glenn and I came a day earlier than usual this trip, so
we had time today to do a day trip nearby.
We had a driver take us 2 hours outside out Addis to a gorge where we
could do a little hiking. It is dry now
but in the rainy season there are huge waterfalls that lead to the Jimma River. It was a beautiful sunny day and wonderful to
be outside. We had dinner together in
the hotel and we will all enjoy a good night’s sleep! Tomorrow – ENT lectures, Orthopedic clinic,
dropping off supplies. Some of us will
go to church, some may go to the museum.
It’s great to be back!
