We all enjoyed our day off yesterday, and the Eagles fans
were happy!
We had another full day of surgery today, lots of cleft
repairs, some ear reconstructions and some other plastic surgery cases. The local Venezuelan anesthesia residents
joined us today, and we have had a local pediatric surgeon and a few dentists
with us for the week also.
We have all had the chance to have some conversations with local medical providers and other volunteers about the local conditions and their perspectives about the issues facing their country. Yesterday gave us the chance to see the natural beauty of the country and see some of it’s many resources, but the realities in this public hospital are strikingly different. Much like many other countries in need, there are lots of patients needing care and crowding the hallways and entrances to the hospital.
