Our OR started today. It took a little while to get things started in the am, but by mid-morning, we had 3 ORs running. In all, we did 14 OR cases, mostly related to cleft lip and palate. The patient that will stick with me most was a 16 month old girl named Elizabeth with a cleft lip and palate that was so malnourished that she weighed less than some newborns. We fixed her lip today, and hopefully that will allow her to get better nourishment so that she can grow and thrive. We had a few glitches during the day, but things mostly went really well. The local OR staff and the local Rotarians are really amazing - helping us, preparing lunch for us, translating, working out issues and really helping with everything.
My long lost bag showed up today! It didn't tell me any stories about where it went, but I am happy to have it back!
It is late and time for bed; hopefully tomorrow will be a little bit more streamlined.
