Today was a busy day.
We had 20 OR cases, 8 pediatric and 12 adult. We had a few surprises: a young adult who came to the clinic after he
suffered a gun-shot wound, a 2 month old baby with a hernia that was stuck and
needed surgery urgently, and a 2 year old who came in unresponsive and probably
has diabetes. Our pediatrician saw about
30 children from an orphanage who hadn’t received medical care in years. There
were clinic patients interspersed throughout the day. The team was busy all day and into the early
evening. We have a full day of surgery
tomorrow, so time for bed!

Late afternoon yesterday, we transferred the trauma patient
to another facility; into the evening yesterday, we stabilized the 2 year
old. The baby did quite well overnight and
had lots of grandmothers among our team.
Many enjoyed a nightly ritual of playing dominos and laughing.
Dr. Tony and Cal, our logistician, went to Partners in
Health hospital with two visitors from the US Davita Foundation. We had 6 pediatric and 6 adult surgical cases
for a total of 78 OR cases for the week.
Now we are cleaning up and will have a relaxing
evening. Tomorrow we are going to the
beach for some sunshine and relaxation before going home!
